The two parts does not need to run on the same PC. This is probably not an exhaustive list of other systems, use Google or Duckduckgo or Bing search engines yourself, but these are the first search results to appear. RocRail consists of two different parts: A server (RocRail) and a client (RocView). StaRFIshrail uses the ISO15693 standard, for reasons explained on the "StaRFIshrail Difference" page in Technology. Others are using 13.56MHz, but, as far as I can tell, all use the MIFARE ISO14443 standard. Please also note that StaRFIshrail is not compatible with any other (known) RFID system for model railways.

Rocrail is an open source software from the scale model train world and offers a good variety of features that are useful especially when operating large train layouts. Instead of nControl, we are now using Rocrail. We recently changed our automation software platform. Hopefully no one will get too upset about that. First automated LEGO train layout with Rocrail.
